GPS on this phone is practically USELESS, yes, it’s totally retarded and all you can do is tell you where you are and you can watch the stupid blue blinker move when you move. What’s the fucking point of that?

Video calls? Forget it, this dumb phone has a single camera and it’s on the back of the phone. And worst, the camera suck balls. If video calls ever enabled, then I would need to make a periscope-like iphone appendage/clip-on to reflect myself towards the back camera…duh.

Oh, and it feels a tad bigger, my old iPhone silicone case wraps it real tight, love it….hate the stupid plastic back plate.

To unlock it, I need to get a dumbo turbosim shit - Don’t need it now since I am on ATT as well.

Oh yeah. It’s the time of the year again that my itchy hands have to do something. Being at Microsoft and wasn’t able to check my mail with the iPhone is really frustrating. With the recent release of firmware 2.0, I just got to have it upgraded so I could use Outlook with my corporate emails. So just in case I remeber what I did (Cause I don’t when I unlocked version 1.0.2). This time around, things have been fairly simple and I don’t have to go through a bunch of hoops and loops just to get things work. So here’s for me to remember what I did:

Download xWinPwn 0.3

Download Firmware 2.0 for 1st Gen iPhone (2G sounds dumb)

Download and install iTune 7.7 - Find it HERE

Extract xWinPwn and copies the Firmware into this same folder.

Open xWinPwn and click on “Create Custom IPW” that will create a custom firmware with some shit in it that will work the magic.

Start PwnAge - I don’t think this is necessary but do it anyway.

Turn off your phone and remove the sim card.

Start iTune

Start your phone in DFU mode

Press Shift+Restore and select the custom firmware to restore

When done, you have a jailbroken+activated+unlocked iPhone again. Yay.

So what if you want to downgrade? This is what I did though it wasn’t as simple as I thought. I did the exact step as above except that I used a 1.1.4 firmware. All was good until the end, Error 1015, crap. So it was the baseband version that’s causing the issue. So here’s what to do:

Download and install iTune 7.5

Download ZiPhone 3.0 - (this app is flaky, so not linking)

Click on “ALL” and let it do all the crap it does

Voila, a jailbroken+activated phone but not unlocked - find this info easily on G

Follow step 9 above and restore it back to 1.1.4 to factory settings locked and shit.

Yay. Upgraded and downgraded just for fun All the info here are for personal references only and not every detail steps were layout here. What I did was fairly simple and you can easily figure out any missing steps that I might have missed here. Enjoy.

Just got a 4GB iPhone over the weekend for $299+tax. I was really tempted to get the iPhone when it was $200 more…luckily I did not….Guess it is well worth the wait. I can’t believe those stand in line for 3 days just to get it at $200 more than the current retail price.

Recently, Apple launches their Touch (iTouch) which looks exactly the same as the iPhone just without the phone. The 8GB iTouch cost the same as the 4GB iPhone..so I got the iPhone since I don’t need the extra 4GB space. Unlocking it was really risky. Went through alot of forums describing thousands of ways to unlock the iPhone…and some reported they bricked the phone….I was lucky I guess.

I cross reference a few tutorials and decide that one tutorial kinda like a superset of all the others. There were different ways posted for a MAC…but unfortunate, I have to looks for the ones for Windoze. The tutorial was simple enough except for the fact, it didn’t clarify what need to be done with a virgin phone in order for iBrickr to work…guess the main site did a great job mentioning it on the front page.

After unlocking, I can use my iPhone with my current carrier (T-Mobile)!!….When i first inserted my Sim, I got a “NO SIM CARD” error which freaked me out for a few secs there. No big deal, took the sim out and put it back and everything is fine, I see my signal bar rising and “T-Mobile” appears next to it. I am now able to connect to my Wifi network and browse the web using the phone. Pretty cool looking device.

You can basically tilt the phone horizontally or vertically for your viewing pleasure. YouTube video is great too. Browsing and viewing on the iPhone is totally great…many will ask “Can you even read that shit?” …hell yeah…by gliding your thumb and your index finger out diagonally, it zooms in, glide in diagonally, it zooms out. I haven’t got time to fiddle with it now, maybe I will check what otehr goodies they have in there over the weekend. Now I will need to unlock my friend’s iPhone..haha……I never thought I would buy an Apple Product….and no..I will never use a MAC…..NEVER!

I still remember powering on the computer is so much different than what we have nowadays. The Commodore64 practically boots up in 5secs!..LOL…cause it only loads a lightweight OS unlike the bulky and crappy MS Windows nowadays. Memories of my dad teaching us how to load the games is still fresh in my head… he said “To run this game, type L-O-A-D shift star shift comma eight comma one, hit enter”…basically the command line to load this shizzle is ‘load “*”,8,1′ and hit ENTER on the keyboard…..just seems weird thinking about it nowadays…it’s all about the double-click now! Ok enough crap.

I was searching all over and couldn’t find anything about how to create a static widget for wordpress. So I decide to tweak around and found a way around that. I am not ready to post how I go about this, but do email me and we’ll work something out. Basically the advantages of my static widget implementation are:

Widget on sidebar will remain for all existing wordpress themes

Widget is invisible to user, so this widget cannot be removed by the user.

With this static widget in place, I can have Google Ads or other advertisers banner/logo etc placed site wide.

Recently we bought a simple gadget known as Kill-A-Watt. I have seen this item being listed on sale since last year on several online retailers. I was very curious about what it does and pretty much tempted in purchasing one. However, I never did (back then)…Daphne probably gonna start grumbling about how I waste my money and all that (not that I really listen :P..I do sometimes, perhaps most of the time..). Anyway, last month we saw this item on sale again and she asked me what it does. So I go on telling her how this small gadget works and guess what, she say go ahead and buy it! Of course, there was a reason behind it. Our energy bill was high! Pretty much about $90-$100/mth while both of us were out working. No appliances were turned on, well except for our computers..haha…I have this habit of leaving the PC turned on for the convenience (so that I can start checking my mail and browse the web after I got up from bed..no wait time for it to startup! Save time man..)

So what does Kill-A-Watt does to save us money? Well..it does nothing…nothing productive but providing some basic information about how much electricity our appliances is using. We paid $17 for this…yupz..$17 for something that doesn’t look worth that much at all!….These things retail for about over $20 elsewhere so $17 was pretty much a steal…well..for some. So what do we know now? We found out that our air conditioning unit was using 1 KWh every hour. My computer is currently using 1KWh every 4 hours. Per our energy billing scheme which includes energy charge, delivery charge and taxes, it came out to be $0.40 per 1KWh used. So $0.40 every 4 hour…no big deal man….not much….so we thought!

What is our conclusion? Running our PC 24hr a day used up about 6KWh, which is equivalent to $2.40 per day, which brings us to $72 per month!!! (30 days). I was like WTF…..oh well…we started turning off our PC when we leave home and only have it turned on whenever we need it. So why is my computer sucking up $72 per month?! So all the appliances including Daphne’s PC is using $20-30 worth of energy! Guess it was a bad idea to have too many peripherals w/ a huge power supply hooked up to your rig. So there you are…source of our power sucker….. Due to the heat of summer, we have had no choice but to blast our AC for a couple hours everyday..so our energy usage stays pretty much the same as before. At least we don’t have to sweat ourself when we’re suppose to be chilling!…Here ya go..my power sucker.

So again I thought, where should we visit this time. As usual, most of these places we’ve been to when we (me and Daphne) had this awesome roadtrip back in Summer 2002. This was the best trip ever so far. I felt adventurous travelling from Buffalo,NY to Los Angeles,CA and back. If you ask me if we will ever do this again? HELL NO! Guess we just got older and thinking about the time spent travelling just got me off the hook. It was fun, no doubt about it and I am very glad we did it. Many said we were crazy and some were amused as well The whole trip took us about 2 weeks plus. I don’t exactly remember the details.

Alright, seems like Daphne is having a depression due to boredom therefore, she haven’t been writing lately. To all you girls/ladies out there that think of quitting your job just so you can relax, plan a wedding etc….think twice, thrice or fries….cause Daphne have done none of it..LOL.. There’s some good stuff too while Daphne stayed home since I no longer have to do the laundry, dishes and filling up the Brita jug… I hate laundry..ugh..

Daphne is leaving tonight back to Malaysia for a long vacation. I’ll be bored I guess…nobody to welcome me home when I am back from work, no home cook dinner…aiya….No fear, I’ve plan some stuff that I could do while Daphne is away, since I no longer obligated to sit right next to her everyday and be around her every minute (for the next couple months)… Should I be happy since I will get some freedom? LOL… I am partially happy since I am free and yet I would be bored as Daphne’s presence has been a part of my life for a long time now.

So what I would be doing while Daphne’s away? Stuff that I’ve always wanted to do:
1. Detailing my car - wash, clay, polish, glaze, seal and wax
2. Photography - Gotta learn how to shoot some nice pix.
3. Programming - Do some fun stuff maybe…

Ok, activity #1, I guess there’s no way I can do all that considering I live in an apartment and access to outside water supply is practically NONE, thus no washing, claying, polishing or glaze..LOL.. Bought some Meguiar’s detailing supplies but so far I have only been able to quick detail with the Ultimate Quick Detailer (UQD) and wax with the NXT Tech Wax. So far, I have 3 coats of waxes on and soon I’ll try to top it off with some pure Deep Crystal Pure Carnauba Wax. Got kinda ripped off getting the carnauba wax, paid $7.99 when it is retailed at $5.49..damn it. Gonna try return it if I can find it cheaper somewhere else. I am too anal to have the car wash at a drive thru carwash…they suck.. A low light shot of the car w/ my new Canon SLR.

Next, activity #2, Photography…..always have been looking forward to own an SLR, so finally bought an entry level Canon Rebel XTi last week. Got an extra lens (non USM) which was recommended by some that I’ve read from some photography forums. Below is a sample shot of my wife…..just gotten us some 100F Starbux coffee in a 85F day…:(

Finally, activity #3, Programming. So far, I haven’t thought of anything Any ideas? Stay tune. Getting back to work. I’ll post more when I am back. Will be dropping Daphne off the airport tonight.

So what do you guys think? Nice? Doesn’t really look like me, does it?
The truth is, that’s really me. Only thing is, the picture was taken on Oct 16, 1998. Oh My God….. (and repeat after me!)

The truth is, that’s really me. Only thing is, the picture was taken on Oct 16, 1998. Oh My God….. (and repeat after me!)

Please forgive me for the low quality of the pictures. Afterall, it was taken almost 10 years ago and digicam at that time wasn’t as sophisticated as what we have now. I found these photos while going through the pictures in my computer last week. (more…)
