OUR STORY

HOW WE MET

That happened many years ago when we were in secondary school. We went to the same secondary school (SABKL) but were never in the same class. Nevertheless, in a school where everyone knows almost everyone, we knew each other too but we didn’t hang out together.

D: Didn’t really know much about him back then. I remember my good friends and I started to get to know more about him when Li San (one of my best friends) got into the same class with him in Form 4. Also, we girls used to tease him when we see him around since we found out from Li San that he’s a really shy guy!

A: My first memory of her was of her being the school prefect “jaga-ing” my class back in Form 2. Not a very good first impression since I’m not very fond of prefects. Think back then we used to tease her with some boys in class to make her angry!

GET TOGETHER

Well, that didn’t happen until we were out of SAB. Back then, everyone kinda gets crazy after SPM and all we did was hang out and party. That was when we got to know each other even more, and well, the rest is history J

D: Memory is kinda vague on exactly what happen back then. Remember we used to hang out a lot at shopping malls especially at the newly opened (back then!) One Utama and hit the clubs at night. Somehow, he was always the appointed driver and we used to see each other a lot. Then one day, he brought me to this park opposite 1-U and expressed his feelings to me and then, we started to hang out together even more!

A: That’s right, we were always at places like the Promenades at 1-U, Modesto, The Roof at Bangsar or Arena at Sunway. Well, these places probably no longer exist today! Also, we used to go to the Pyramid to have this chicken buffet which used to be really good!

LONG DISTANCE RELATIONSHIP

After two years of being together, we parted ways to different places to further our studies. We promised each other to try to make it work but it never occur to us that we had to be apart for so many years!

D: It was very difficult at the beginning. Just before he left me in Singapore and returned to KL to get ready to fly off to the US, we cried so much together. Looking back, I’m very amazed at how we could still be together after so many years of being apart. However, we did try to meet up at least twice a year and I think it really helps. Also, much thanks to the internet (IRC, ICQ, MSN) and cheap international phone calls! The only downside is that I’ve spent all my vacation days in the US and I haven’t been much to everywhere else!

A: All I remember is I have to make sure that I know where to buy phone cards and call her every night weekdays and every morning and night weekend, with each call lasting more than 1 hour. And prior to that, it was the internet and NetMeeting with live video!

THE ENGAGEMENT - OCT 19, 2007

One fine day, we decided that we would like to get married soon and then we went ring-shopping. Finally, after having bought the ring, the proposal only came in 2 months after that!

D: After being apart for so long, and finally got back together, it really was just a matter of when we would have the time to get married. So finally, after tons of research on the internet, we got our ring from this fantastic online store Good Old Gold. And after that, I waited at least 2 more months before he actually proposed to me and all those while, I could only look at the ring sitting pretty in the box!

A: It was a very casual proposal as it was a very cold night and we just didn’t feel like going anywhere. I got her flowers from this place around my office and proposed to her at home. Got down on my knees, asked her to marry me and then promised her a tons of stuff. Actually I have proposed to her countless times before that but I was always rejected since I didn’t have flowers and any preparation!

D (again): Would like to emphasize here for “documentation” purposes that he has promised to:

a)Take care of D forever;
b)Love D forever; and
c)Cover D up with blanket before sleep every night.
